PAX3 and Parkinson disease: Providing Pax3 is not expressed in this region at an earlier developmental stage than examined in this study, the subthalamus may represent a novel opportunity to further dissect the functional repertoire of Pax7 from that of Pax3. Additional work would therefore be required to characterize the subthalamus of Pax7 mutant mice to address this issue, as this important brain region is a target of deep brain stimulation to treat disorders such as Parkinson's Disease and epilepsy [56,57].
