We have previously shown that treatment of angiogenic brain tumours with ZD6474, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor with specificity towards vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) receptor 2 and the epidermal growth factor receptor, resulted in conversion to a nonangiogenic phenotype, characterised by perivascular growth along pre-existent vessels (Leenders et al, 2004).
