Animal and post-mortem human studies indicate that expression of RANTES/CCL5, a chemo-attractant for T cells and monocytes, and its corresponding receptors CCR3 and CCR5 are elevated in brain tissues of C57BL/6 mice infected with Plasmodium berghei ANKA and in post-mortem tissues of CM patients [24,25]. The gene discussed is CCL5; the disease is cutaneous mastocytosis.
