Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPAR-γ) is a member of the nuclear receptor superfamily, which when activated by thiazolidinedione (TZD) insulin sensitizers, regulates the expression of genes that control lipid and glucose homeostasis, thus modulating the major metabolic disorders predisposing to atherosclerosis [3-5]. This evidence concerns the gene PPARG and atherosclerosis.
