The human MUC1 gene encodes a protein which undergoes glycosylation and has been variously referred to as epithelial membrane antigen (EMA), human milk fat globule antigen, breast-cancer associated DF3 antigen, polymorphic epithelial mucin, sialomucin, CD227, episialin and CA15-3 (Taylor-Papadimitriou et al, 2002). Here, MUC1 is linked to breast carcinoma.
