Methylation-dependent transcriptional silencing of FANCF occurs in cisplatin-sensitive epithelial ovarian cancer cell lines, implying that platinum resistance correlates with the methylation state of the CpG island of FANCF and suggesting a model of reversible methylation of FANCF leading initially to chromosomal instability associated with platinum sensitivity, followed by demethylation and expansion of platinum-resistant clones (Taniguchi et al, 2003).
