This CD44 expression does not necessarily contradict the oligodendrocyte lineage commitment of A2B5+PDGFRα+O4+ glioma cells which exhibited a concomitant GFAP expression, because a misexpression of CD44 can result in expansion of oligodendrocyte progenitor cells with impaired maturation and concomitant gain of GFAP expression [28]. Here, GFAP is linked to central nervous system cancer.
