The binding of the E-selectin/Fc recombinant to metastatic breast cancer cells was largely reduced by removal of sLex moieties from tumor cell surfaces (Fig. 2 and Fig. 6C), suggesting that the E-selectin binding protein(s) in metastatic breast cancer cells are decorated with sLex moieties and that sLex moieties play a significant role in mediating tumor cell binding to E-selectin.
