DHPS and infection: This paper describes a new FRET/MCA assay with a fluorogenic primer/probe design in combination with MCA, which enables: 1) the identification of the genotype (wild type or Lys → Glu substitution) in codon 540 of the DHPS gene of Plasmodium falciparum that is highly associated with sulphadoxine resistance; 2) the quantification of the different genotypes in a polyclonal infection.
