An example of the damage caused by hydrogen peroxide is that it can stimulate the phosphorylation of the NF-KB-IKBcomplex activating the NK-KB and facilitating nucleartranslocation and downstream of proinflammatory cytokines, includinginterleukin-2 (IL-2), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-8 (IL-8),β-interferon,and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) that arevery important in the pathogenesis of periodontal disease [10–12].
