Although the interaction between paraoxonase 2 and Nrf2 is marginally non-significant, the possible involvement of Nrf2 alcohol preference in mice is remarkable, as it has been recently shown that a promoter polymorphism in the phase II detoxification enzyme NQO2 plays an important role in the pathogenesis of alcoholism and alcohol withdrawal symptoms in humans [14]. The gene discussed is PON2; the disease is alcohol drinking.
