Recently a G to C polymorphism at position −2 in the 5′UTR of the Trim5 gene (−2G/C; rs3824949) in combination with the R136Q polymorphism has been associated with enhanced susceptibility to HIV-1 infection (136Q/−2G haplotype) and accelerated disease progression (136R/−2G haplotype) [29]. Here, TRIM5 is linked to HIV-1 infection.
