It would be intriguing to speculate that up-regulation of FABP7 in the frontal cortex of schizophrenia might be the consequence of compensatory processes for disturbed FABP7 regulation and/or essential lipid metabolism in the developmental stages, reminiscent of “fetal programming” that is observed in metabolic syndromes [45].
