Considering our finding that BMP-6-induced E-cadherin transactivation occurs indirectly, through the reduction of δEF1 expression, we speculate that overexpression of BMP-6 by breast cancer cells may represent a novel mechanism that regulates specific target genes such as E-cadherin and δEF1, in modulating metastasis and invasion of breast cancer. The gene discussed is BMP6; the disease is breast carcinoma.
