Finally, Listeria infection, which requires ATP for the bacteria to polymerize actin and spread from cell to cell, was not affected (not shown), but most importantly, a similar amount of C. trachomatis infectious progeny was recovered from control or Tom40- or Tom22-depleted cells, suggesting that the C. trachomatis developmental cycle was not affected (Figure 8B).
