Nikkola et al. tested the expression of MMPs in 56 metastatic melanomas by immunohistochemistry and found that patients with positive tumors for MMP1 and MMP3 had a shorter disease-free survival when compared to those with negative lesions (MMP1, p = 0.0383; MMP3, p = 0.0294) [7]. This evidence concerns the gene MMP1 and metastatic melanoma.
