In another study (Hines et al. 2001), moderate drinkers who are homozygous for the slow-oxidizing ADH1C*2 allele, and therefore who are expected to drink at higher levels than those with the ADH1C*1 allele, showed a substantially decreased risk of heart attack (i.e., myocardial infarction). The gene discussed is ADH1C; the disease is myocardial infarction.
