Several clinical studies have examined the association between levels of inflammatory markers and venous thrombosis, and found that a two- to six-fold increase in the risk of DVT associated with elevations in plasma levels of CRP, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, monocyte chemotactic protein (MCP)-1 or tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha [19]. This evidence concerns the gene CRP and deep vein thrombosis.
