In line with previous findings of an effect of this variant on insulin secretion [16–18], there was a significant interaction between the KCNJ11 E23K polymorphism and the disposition index (p < 0.001), suggesting that the risk of T2D associated with a low disposition index [31] is increased by the EK/KK genotypes. This evidence concerns the gene KCNJ11 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
