HP and G6PD deficiency: Multiple binomial regression analysis of the Hp 2 allele revealed geographic clustering in some villages (2/9) plus independent associations with the number of -61C and -101G alleles (coefficient 2.65, OR = 14.2 [95% CI 5.1–39.4], p<0.001&−1.32, OR = 0.27 [95% CI 0.2–0.4], p<0.001, respectively) and also G6PD deficiency, whereby male hemizygotes (AZ) and female homozygotes (AA) were less likely to have the Hp2 allele (coefficient -0.83, OR = 0.44 [95% CI 0.3–0.7], p = 0.002).
