The Ala allele is protective against the risk ofdeveloping T2DM, and it has been estimated that the globalprevalence of T2DM would be ∼25% lower simply byvirtue of everybody carrying one or more copies of the Ala allele[49, 62, 63], implying that PPARγ is perhaps thesingle most important “diabetogene” identified todate. The gene discussed is PPARG; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
