The aims of the current study were to: (a) investigate the expression of VEGF-A, -C and -D in human breast cancer via immunohistochemistry, (b) examine the tumour lymphatic and vascular characteristics by counting lymph vessels/area to determine LVD and counting blood vessels via the Chalkley method to assess MVD and (c) conduct correlations between expression of the growth factors in relation to patient clinicopathological data, survival, lymphangiogenesis and angiogenesis to examine the role that they play in the regulation of such processes and in the progression of breast cancer. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is neoplasm.
