MUC1 has been demonstrated to affect beta-catenin, a nuclear transcription factor, and its intracellular distribution has been shown to influence progression of colorectal cancer [39], it has been suggested that MUC1 exerts some of it's effects through interaction with beta-catenin, with over expression of MUC1 leading to increased levels of nuclear beta-catenin [40]. Here, MUC1 is linked to colorectal cancer.
