Two studies investigated protective agents; one concluded that dexrazoxane prevents or reduces cardiac injury as reflected in elevation of a cardiac marker (cTnT) during doxorubicin therapy for childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia without compromising antileukaemic efficacy of doxorubicin but it did not provide direct correlation of echocardiographic abnormality with elevations in cTnT; the other reported a protective effect of coenzyme Q10 on cardiac function during anthracycline therapy but did not support this conclusion with statistical data. The gene discussed is TNNT2; the disease is acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
