It has recently been reported that expression of a transgene in mdx mice for neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS), which occurs as a secondary loss in dystrophin deficiency, decreased cardiac inflammation and fibrosis resulting in amelioration of both cardiac function and electrocardiographic abnormalities, including deep Q-waves [37]. This evidence concerns the gene NOS1 and neuromuscular disease caused by qualitative or quantitative defects of dystrophin.
