Although we cannot completely rule out that this change could result from the comparison between DNA extracted from frozen and formalin-fixed samples, this 14.3 Mb telomeric region encompasses interesting oncogene candidates, such as H-RAS, a bona fide oncogene, and IGF2, which has been reported to show loss of imprinting in up to 30–60% of breast cancers (McCann et al, 1996; Wu et al, 1997). The gene discussed is IGF2; the disease is breast carcinoma.
