Cytogenetic and molecular analyses have demonstrated that ARMS frequently harbors two reciprocal chromosomal translocations t(2;13)(q35;q14) or t(1;13)(p36;q14), in which PAX3 or PAX7 and FKHR genes are juxtaposed producing two novel fusion transcription factors PAX3-FKHR or PAX7-FKHR. Here, PAX7 is linked to alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma.
