We further infer from the data showing that F3H transcript levels are reciprocally correlated to those of CHS and IFS, that the entrance into the flavonol/anthocyanin/proanthocyanin branch of the pathway is possibly restricted by the low levels of the F3H and transcripts of genes downstream of F3H, thus giving preference to the isoflavone/phytoalexin branch of the pathway during the response to infection.
