Large-scale, multi-centre, randomized controlled trials aimed at the restoration of the antithrombin (ATIII) [7] and tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) [8,9] anticoagulant pathways however, did not demonstrate a significant reduction in mortality in patients with sepsis, suggesting that targeting the aggravated coagulation response is not sufficient and additional strategies should be considered. This evidence concerns the gene TFPI and Sepsis.
