IL-12 is a proinflammatory cytokine known to elicit a T-lymphocyte–mediatedimmune response against bacterial infection (Hsieh et al. 1993), whereas IL-10 is an antiinflammatory cytokine known to prolong the survivalof intracellular pathogens in AM (Redpath et al. 2001). This evidence concerns the gene IL10 and bacterial infectious disease.
