Mycobacterial-induced production of CXCL-8 has beenpreviously demonstrated in human alveolar macrophages, inmonocytic THP1 cells, and in bronchoalveolar lavage of pleuralfluid from pulmonary tuberculosis patients [7–10, 22].However, the downregulation of CXCL-8 by IL-4 following M. bovisinfection is a novel finding. The gene discussed is CXCL8; the disease is pulmonary tuberculosis.
