Two drugs already approved for the treatment of CRC are the monoclonal antibodies: cetuximab (Erbitux®), which binds to and inhibits activation of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) (Li et al, 2005), and bevacizumab (Avastin®), which binds vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF-A), thereby interfering with signalling through the VEGF-1 and -2 receptors and inhibiting angiogenesis (Hicklin and Ellis, 2005). Here, VEGFA is linked to colorectal carcinoma.
