Van Trappen reported that more than 50% of cervical cancer in an advanced stage, which frequently had lymphogenous metastasis, expressed VEGF-C and/or VEGFR-3 proteins, and that this suggested an autocrine growth stimulation pattern via VEGFR-3 in cervical cancer (van Trappen et al, 2003).
