The remarkable inhibition of angiogenesis by IFN-γ-transfected NB cells reported here, together with our preliminary observation that human recombinant IFN-γ reduced vessel growth induced by exogenous FGF-2 in the CAM assay by 80% (data not shown), lends additional support to the concept that angiogenesis inhibition is part of the general mechanism of action of IFN-γ.
