Two additional studies have been performed in patients of western origin with adenocarcinoma of oesophagus and like our study have demonstrated a negative correlation between levels of COX-2 expression and overall survival, although unlike our study no correlation was found between COX-2 expression and clinicopathologic features of the tumour and no attempt was made to correlate the COX-2 protein expression with the COX-2 m-RNA expression[23,26]. This evidence concerns the gene PTGS2 and adenocarcinoma.
