Several retrospective studies in HNSCC have demonstrated that VEGF-A expression is associated with clinicopathological factors and/or poor patient's outcome, suggesting that VEGF-A could serve as a prognostic marker (Eisma et al, 1997; Maeda et al, 1998; Mineta et al, 2000; Smith et al, 2000; Lim et al, 2003; Kimura et al, 2004; Uehara et al, 2004; Kyzas et al, 2005b). This evidence concerns the gene VEGFA and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
