Sun et al (1998) reported that reexpression of the α2β1-integrin in a poorly differentiated breast carcinoma cell line, Mm5MT, resulted in reversion of a malignant phenotype to a differentiated epithelial phenotype. Reduction of integrin α6β4 via siRNA in MDA_MB_231 breast cancer cells resulted in decreased invasion on a laminin-coated surface (Lipscomb et al, 2003). The gene discussed is LAMB2; the disease is breast carcinoma.
