Why this gene should be non-linearly over-expressed is not yet clear, but a previous study using western blotting documented the relative over-expression of the GARS-AIRS-GART protein in post-natal cerebellum in human DS and, interestingly, found that this over-expression was due to the failure of a normal program of GART silencing during cerebellar maturation [64]. The gene discussed is GART; the disease is Dravet syndrome.
