Recently, it was postulated that deficiency of the von Hippel Lindau (VHL) protein, which is observed in most renal carcinomas, could be one of the factors responsible for downregulation of the biogenesis of complexes of the oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) (Shiao et al, 2000; Hervouet et al, 2005). This evidence concerns the gene VHL and renal carcinoma.
