In the present study, we attempted to replicate the important recent findings of Boutin et al. [18], which implicated three SNPs in GAD2 (the −243 A>G allele and a haplotype of the +61450 C>A and +83897 T>A SNPs) in the predisposition to class III human obesity. The gene discussed is GAD2; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
