Interferon (IFN)-mediated antiviral action is still considered to be among the most important intracellular mechanisms against viruses, however recently a mechanism in which viral proteins might be involved in blocking IFN signalling during dengue virus infections has been described [32] supporting the conjecture that other complementary antiviral activities may be acting during dengue infection as well [33]. This evidence concerns the gene IFNA1 and dengue disease.
