The incidence of grade 4 neutropenia was high (67.4% of the patients); however, it was short lasting, rarely requiring G-CSF administration (3.2% of cycles), and resulted in very few episodes of febrile neutropenia (1.9% of cycles), significantly lower than that observed in an adjuvant trial with a three-drug regimen including docetaxel, doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide (Martin et al, 2003). The gene discussed is CSF3; the disease is Decreased total neutrophil count.
