AADAT and sitosterolemia: In a literature search of genetic changes reported for these strains, we were able to compile at least 3 other loci that are mutated in the SHR strain (Cd36, Srebp-1 and Kat-2), suggesting the possibility that the missense 'mutation' identified in Abcg5 is not causative for sitosterolemia (which is also moderate in comparison to levels seen in patients with sitosterolemia who have levels frequently >15 mg/dl), but associated as a result of the in-breeding [29-31].
