In this study, the associations between a polymorphism in promoter region of the IGF-I gene, birth weight, (as a measure of intra-uterine growth), and risk factors for CVD and T2DM were investigated, in order to obtain more insight into the genetic aspects of the fetal origins hypothesis [1,5,6,30,31](The results of the present study demonstrate that men who were carriers of one or two variant allele(s) of the IGF-I gene had significantly lower birth weights. The gene discussed is IGF1; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
