Endocrine therapy is the preferred systemic treatment for recurrent or metastatic hormone-receptor-positive post-menopausal breast cancer (Carlson and Henderson, 2003), since it is well known that breast cancers expressing the oestrogen receptor (ER) and/or progesterone receptor (PgR) are sensitive to an increasingly wide variety of hormonal therapies (Carlson, 2002). This evidence concerns the gene PGR and breast cancer.
