GSTM1 and GSTT1 null genotype frequencies (54% and 33% respectively) in the females who had at least one of the cancers in the genital region (Group 1) in the present study were similar to the respective frequencies (57% and 20% respectively) found in females with single (unpaired) cervical cancer cases from India [29] suggesting that the association between GST genotype and cervical cancer risk in Group 1 females in our study is more likely to be a true association. This evidence concerns the gene GSTM1 and cervical cancer.
