The transgenic mouse models used to study AD exhibit some of the pathological features seen in the AD patient brain and show an increased production of inflammatory markers such as COX-2, PGE2 and also increased levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines IFN-γ and IL-12, TNF-α, IL-1α, IL-1β and IL-6 [12,22]. This evidence concerns the gene PTGS2 and Alzheimer disease.
