Increased expression of TGFβ has been reported in a variety of fibrotic lung diseases [6,7,3], including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a relentlessly progressive fibrotic lung disease with a median survival from diagnosis of only two years [8], and pulmonary fibrosis associated with systemic sclerosis, one of the leading causes of death in scleroderma patients [9]. The gene discussed is TGFB1; the disease is pulmonary fibrosis.
