Two studies published in 1999 took opposing points of view concerning the role of the immunophenotyping of cutaneous infiltrates.7,9 A high CD4:CD8 ratio was regarded as both sensitive and specific for the diagnosis of mycosis fungoides by Hudson and Smoller,7 on basis of an earlier study by Izban et al.8 In that study,8 35 biopsies from 29 mycosis fungoides patients were evaluated. Here, CD8A is linked to mycosis fungoides.
