Dysfunction of the p53 tumour suppressor gene located at 17p13.1 is the most frequent alteration in human malignancy and frequent loss of heterozygosity (LOH) on 17p13.3, distal to p53, has been reported in breast, colon, ovary, and lung cancers (Tsuchiya et al, 2000). This evidence concerns the gene TP53 and lung cancer.
